MEMBER GUIDE

ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY!

Member attendance at rehearsals and performances is vital to the development of the student, the excellence level of the band, and the quality of the band’s performance.  Attendance, with a positive attitude, is the most important component in reaching the band’s goals and fulfilling the group’s mission.  

• Attendance is mandatory at all rehearsals, football games, competitions, parades, pep rallies, and other scheduled events.

• Students are allowed THREE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES FOR BOTH COMPETITION BAND AND PEP BAND. A parent note must be submitted by the end of that school week, stating the reason for the absence.  If a parent note is not submitted, the student may be removed from the band immediately. Upon the third unexcused absence, the student will be removed from the band.

• If you exceed the maximum number of absences, then your status in the group will undergo a review process by the director.

• Three unexcused late arrivals to practice will count as an unexcused absence.

• Excused absences are as follows: 

Illness with a doctor’s note, Involvement in another school activity with the director’s prior approval, Wedding with prior notice, Religious obligations, Death in the family, Vacations are NOT an excused absence (Prior notice is needed if a interfering vacation is planned), Work and “too much homework” are never excused absences. PLAN AHEAD!!!

• Leaving practice early has the same effect as arriving late and will be treated in the same manner.

• If a student misses the full day of school before a performance, they must provide a doctor's note in order to perform. If a doctor’s note is not provided, they will not be able to participate in any of the weekend’s performances.

• There is a limit to the number of times a student will be granted an excused absence.  These absences will undergo a review process by the director, staff, and student leadership. 

• Should you miss a rehearsal, you are responsible to learn what you missed in a reasonable amount of time.  It is your responsibility to contact and meet with student leadership to learn the missed material.  

• Learning the material you missed while absent happens on your own time, NOT during rehearsal.

• If a student misses any rehearsal time during the week, a determination will be made by the director and band teaching staff as to whether the student will perform with the band or watch from the sidelines at the following performance. The student must still attend the performance, regardless of their performance status.

• If you are not feeling well while at school or before rehearsal, you MUST contact someone from the student leadership or the band staff.  It will still be counted as an unexcused absence if a parent note is not submitted. 

• Although we encourage involvement in other school activities (i.e. sports), time must be shared.  If you can miss band for another school function, then you can miss another school function for the band.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO PRACTICE, COMPETITIONS, GAMES, PARADES, EVENTS?

For every event an itinerary will be provided the Wednesday before every event. It will be sent through Remind, Posted on the Classroom, and Posted in the Event. Every event will have a section listing things to remember please read this section to understand what is your responsibility to bring. If you are missing a required item you risk your chances of performing. Spiritwear items are for sale and your CutTime account will be charged.

Uniform Requirements 

•  Football Games- Performance Shirt, Baseball Cap, Wool Hat, Marching Shoes, Raritan Backpack, Flip Folder

• Competitions- Show Shirt, Tall Black Socks, Marching Shoes, anything else required for your performance uniform. 

• Parades/Events- Tan Short, Black Sneakers, Performance Shirt, Baseball Cap

*Performance Shirt- Logo on Front/Blank Back

• Athletic Wear and sneakers (Dress for the weather)

HOW DO I STAY INFORMED (Information, Dates, Times, etc.)?

2.    Have Students ask a Section leader or Drum Major, 

3.    Ask a staff member, then Lahaye
